We are excited to announce that Dr. Silver has decided to move her practice completely to Mount Auburn Hospital where she is Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Labiaplasty in Cambridge, MA

Labiaplasty is the cosmetic procedure that reshapes the labia to a more desirable length.

Labiaplasty aims to correct extra-long labia that get twisted or otherwise cause discomfort during sexual intercourse, riding a bike or even wearing a bathing suit. Skin infections, itching, and irritation are also more common with long labia and can be easily remedied by a labiaplasty.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Women who experience discomfort from large labia or are dissatisfied with the appearance of their labia are likely excellent candidates for labiaplasty.

Being in overall good health and a non-smoker makes you a good candidate for labiaplasty.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

After discussing your desired outcome and expectations with Dr. Silver, a surgical date will be made, and preparations will begin.

Preparing for a labiaplasty will likely include pictures to document the transition and explain what will occur during the procedure. Labs and a complete physical exam may also be required to detect any pre-existing conditions in case special considerations need to be taken.

Labiaplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia, but IV sedation may be considered as well. It will be performed in a safe and controlled environment like the hospital or accredited surgical facility on an outpatient basis for most clients.

Once sedation or anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Silver expertly trims and modifies the labia into a more comfortable and attractive form using incisions that are barely noticeable after healing is complete.

Results and Recovery

Recovery from labiaplasty is relatively short, usually within ten days. Some minor discomfort and swelling should be expected for a few days following the procedure.

Rest, pain medication and avoidance of sexual intercourse for 6 weeks or so are often recommended. Be sure to follow Dr. Silver’s post-op instructions carefully for optimal healing and results.

Once the initial swelling has resolved, the final results will become visible, and women can enjoy the many benefits of smaller, more attractive and less obtrusive labia.

Overall Benefits from a Labiaplasty:

  • More appropriately sized and attractive labia
  • More confidence during sex or while wearing a bathing suit
  • Less discomfort from oversized labia rubbing against each other or becoming twisted
  • Less discomfort during sex
  • Less risk of skin infections or irritation
