We are excited to announce that Dr. Silver has decided to move her practice completely to Mount Auburn Hospital where she is Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift) in Cambridge, MA

Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is the cosmetic surgery that involves the lifting of the breast to a more desirable and aesthetically pleasing position.

By removing excess, stretched out skin, and readjusting the surrounding tissue, breast lifts are the solution to sagging breasts that have developed after breastfeeding, weight loss or just aging.

Breast lifts are one of the fastest growing plastic surgeries in the United States, and are one of the many breast surgery procedures we offer.

Who is a Good Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if you are in overall good health, do not smoke and are interested in restoring a more youthful, perky appearance to your breast.

Candidates often include women whose breast have lost volume and firmness due to pregnancy, aging, breastfeeding, heredity and drastic weight loss. Those who are interested in increasing the size of their breast as well can consider adding a breast augmentation to their breast lift.

For those interested in smaller yet perkier breasts, a breast reduction plus breast lift may be the answer.

The Breast Lift Procedure

Before the procedure, a detailed pre-op visit will take place for you to communicate your desired outcome and expectations with Dr. Silver adequately.

Breast lift surgeries take place under general anesthesia in a safe and controlled environment like the hospital or accredited surgical facility.

Dr. Silver will draw on you with a marker to plan out the surgical procedure. The location of the incisions will be determined based on skin quality, amount of skin that will need to be removed, your current breast size, whether or not augmentation or reduction is being incorporated and the size and position of the areolas.

Results and Recovery

Once the surgery is complete, an elastic bandage or support bra will minimize swelling and provide comfort to the healing breast. Pain from the surgery can be expected for the first few days, and your surgeon will advise you on how to manage it. Strenuous activity should be avoided for a few weeks, and even sex may be restricted for the first week or two due to the changes in breast tissue and nipples with sexual arousal.

Be sure to ask Dr. Silver when it will be safe to resume specific activities. Also, pay attention to all post-op instructions and keep planned follow-up visits for optimal healing and results. Once the initial swelling has resolved, usually after just a few weeks, the results of the breast lift surgery can be visible.

Overall benefits of a breast lift surgery include:

  • Better breast profile and position
  • Fuller, more youthful appearance to the breast
  • Improved self-confidence and body image
